Summit Import Issues an Allergy Alert on Undeclared Sulfites in Sweetened Coconut

Jersey City, NJ - February 5, 2003 -- Summit Import Corp. of Jersey City, NJ is recalling its 6 oz packages of Sweetened Coconut because they may contain undeclared sulfites. People who have allergies to sulfites run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

The recalled Sweetened Coconut was distributed to retail stores in NY, VA and MD. The product comes in a 6 ounce, clear plastic package marked with code 30.06.2004.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the sulfite containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of sulfites.

Consumers who have purchased 6 ounces packages of Sweetened Coconut are urged to return them to the place of purchase. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 201-839-2882.
