Trader Joe's East of Needham, Massachusetts is recalling all codes of Trader Joešs frozen, cooked and peeled Langostino Tails, Product of Chile, in 16 oz. poly bags because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

The Langostino Tails were sold from Trader Joe's retail stores in New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, Illinois, and Pennsylvania.

Trader Joešs West Coast stores (California, Arizona, Oregon, Washington, and Nevada) are supplied by another manufacturer and are NOT affected by this recall.

This recall is a result of a sample and test result by the New York State Department of Agriculture due to an illness complaint. The sample contained the bacteria. Upon notification, this product was removed from sale and destroyed. Warehouse inventory is being held off sale. Trader Joe's East will not accept product from the manufacturer until this problem has been resolved.

Customers who purchased these products are urged to return them to any Trader Joe's store for a full refund. If a customer has a question, he/she may contact Trader Joe's Companyšs Customer Service, Margaret McDonald at (781) 433-0182 x 103, or write to Trader Joešs Company, 938R Highland Ave., Needham Heights, MA 02494.
