Turkey Hill Dairy Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Peanuts in Cookies 'N Cream Ice Cream

Conestoga, PA - March 28, 2003 -- Turkey Hill Dairy, of Conestoga, PA, is recalling ½ gallon (64 oz./1.89L) packages of Cookies 'N Cream Ice Cream with the code date "13JAN04X" because they may contain peanuts. People who have allergies to peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

The recalled Cookies 'N Cream Ice Cream was distributed in the Baltimore/Washington D.C. area.

The product comes in a cream-colored, rounded rectangular paperboard ½ gallon package with farm scene and ice cream scoop graphics. It is in a Cookies 'N Cream Ice Cream container that has a Tin Roof Sundae lid with a red rim, and is marked with "13JAN04X" on the bottom. Although peanuts are listed on the lid, they are not listed on the ingredient statement.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem. Upon investigation, this appears to be an isolated incident and corrective actions have been taken to prevent recurrence.

Consumers who have peanut allergies and who have purchased ½ gallon packages of "Cookies 'N Cream Ice Cream" with code date "13JAN04X" may return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-800-MY-DAIRY [1(800)-693-2479].
