Lectures:

Thursday October 21: From Bridge to Boardwalk: An Audio Tour of Maryland's Eastern Shore 12:00 pm-1pm in Mumford Room, 6th Floor of the James Madison Building, Library of Congress. From skinning muskrats to often speaking in a dialect uniquely their own, folks from Maryland's Eastern Shore have carved themselves a life unlike that found anywhere else in the country. As development and tourism attracts people from the other side of the Chesapeake, this disappearing culture has been captured not only in words and photographs, but in the voices of those who live between bay and ocean. The Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation's publication From Bridge to Boardwalk: An Audio Journey Across Maryland's Eastern Shore features 2 CD's with over two hours of interviews with Shore personalities, historical recordings, music, and ambient sound. The accompanying 76-page book includes a pull-out map, essays, photographs, and tips to finding local arts and cultural treasures. From Bridge to Boardwalk will be available for purchase at the lecture. This presentation is part of the American Folklife Center's Botkin Lecture Series.

More about this publication may be found at: The Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation's Web site
