Dr. Marian Mehegan assumed responsibility as the Public Health Service (PHS) Region X Associate Regional Health Administrator for Women's Health on April 1, 1999. She is a PHS Commissioned Corps dental officer who completed a hospital-based General Practice Residency training in San Francisco, California and received a Master of Public Health in Health Policy and Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prior to her assignment as the Region X coordinator, Dr. Mehegan worked in an administrative capacity as Section Chief and Staffing Officer for the Division of Commissioned Personnel in Rockville, MD. She also held the position of Commissioned Corps Liaison for the Food and Drug Administration in Rockville, Maryland.

Dr. Mehegan began her career in the PHS as a National Health Service Corps scholarship-obligated dentist, providing clinical dental services to clients at three Native American clinics of the Riverside-San Bernardino Co. Indian Health in Southern California, and at community health and migrant clinics located in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas. In continuing her work with under served populations in Texas, Dr. Mehegan joined a coalition of health care providers in the Rio Grande Valley to secure clinical dental and medical services for clients with HIV. With a background in clinical dentistry and public health, Dr. Mehegan has set a priority to identify oral health as one of the many women's health issues for Region X, and she is working with partners to promote an oral health agenda for women's health.
