HUD Joins Partnership to Increase Energy Efficiency, Affordability in Public Housing 

[Image: Energy Star logo]HUD, EPA, and DOE signed a formal partnership in September 2002 to promote ENERGY STAR throughout HUD's affordable housing programs. In response to a directive by President Bush for the federal government to find ways to promote energy efficiency and conservation, the three agencies teamed up to improve the energy efficiency of new and existing homes through the use of ENERGY STAR products. Choosing energy-efficient products can save families about a third of their energy bill. In fact, in 2003 alone, Americans saved a whopping $9 billion through ENERGY STAR. Such savings help make housing more affordablea fact particularly important to low-income residents.
