POSITION: Research Plant Pathologist/Plant Physiologist/Research Biochemist
(Plants)
LOCATION: Parlier, California
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The incumbent will be responsible for designing
and developing research strategies to determine physiological plant responses,
and biochemical mechanisms of resistance, to pathogen infection and disease
development. The incumbent will characterize the resistant and susceptible
grape genotypes and examine the anatomical structure of the xylem and
the chemical composition of xylem sap associated with the pathogenesis
of xylem-limited-bacteria, Xylella fastidiosa. Incumbent will document
results as scientific papers for publication in refereed journals.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Ph.D. in plant physiology, plant pathology,
plant genetics, plant biochemistry, chemical ecology or a related biological/physical
science is required. In addition to the educational requirements, the
following is also desired: knowledge of plant structure and development,
plant pathology, and plant biochemistry/secondary metabolism; research
techniques in chemical analysis, experience in using HPLC, GC-MS; skills
in light, confocal and/or scanning electron microscopy; skills in protein
isolation and 1D/2D protein gel analysis; research experience in plant
biochemistry/secondary products or proteomic research; and ability to
publish research results and present information to both technical and
non-technical audiences.
