POSITION: Microbiologist
LOCATION: Athens, GA
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The position is located in the Southeast Poultry
Research Laboratory, Athens, GA. The incumbent’s overall responsibilities
are to compare the immune response of avian species to Newcastle disease
virus (NDV) vaccination and develop criteria that are predictors for
immunological protection from exotic NDV (END) challenge using data gathered
from a low-virulence challenge model. In addition, the successful candidate
will develop and test NDV vaccines and vaccination strategies which 1)
protect avian species against END; 2) decrease amount and duration of
virus shed following END challenge; and 3) contain markers to distinguish
birds that have been vaccinated from those that have received field-challenge.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Ph.D. in Microbiology or a related field
with knowledge of immunology, virology, biochemistry, and immunological
techniques is required. Experience with ELISA, western blot, and flow
cytometry, as well as standard molecular biology techniques including
recombinant DNA technology is preferred.
