Sullivan, M.D., announced today the formation of a Practicing Physicians Advisory Council to advise him on proposed changes in regulations and carrier manual instructions which relate to physician services under Medicare. "The council will serve an important function in our continuing effort to get the advice of practicing physicians regarding the Medicare program," Dr. Sullivan said. "Each appointed member has submitted at least 250 claims for services under Medicare in the previous year," said William Toby Jr., acting administrator of the Health Care Financing Administration. "This group represents physicians who are active participants in the Medicare program. The council members were selected because of their broad and diverse areas of expertise." Appointment of council members was based on nominations submitted by medical organizations representing health care professionals. The advisory council includes both participating and nonparticipating professionals in the Medicare program, and physicians practicing in rural and urban areas of the nation. At least 11 members must be doctors of medicine or osteopathy authorized to practice medicine and surgery by the state in which they practice. - More - - 2 - Chairing the 15-member physician council is Richard B.
