  • Celebrating Cultural and Linguistic Diversity in Head Start: This study investigates diversity in the language and culture of the Head Start population and identifies the range of services provided to them.

  • Comprehensive Child Development Program: This section includes the CCDP Impact Evaluation Report and the CCDP Process Study Report, both designed to evaluate the CCDP, which tested whether a community service program could identify low-income family needs and refer these families to various services.

  • Descriptive Study of Head Start Health Services: This study provides a "national snapshot" of how local Head Start programs meet the medical, dental, nutritional, and mental health needs of the children and families they serve.

  • Early Head Start Research & Evaluation Project Reports: This link provides access to Early Head Start reports including "Building Their Futures: How Early Head Start Programs Are Enhancing the Lives of Infants and Toddlers in Low-Income Families" (Summary Report, Volume I and Volume II), and "Leading the Way: Characteristics and Early Experience of Selected Early Head Start Programs" (Executive Summary, and Volumes I, II, and III)

  • Evaluation of Head Start Family Child Care Demonstration: This study evaluates whether services provided in family child care homes met Head Start Program Performance Standards and compares the outcomes for children and families participating in family child care homes to the outcomes for those participating in center classroom-based programs.

  • Evaluation of the Head Start/Public School Early Childhood Transition Demonstration: This demonstration assists low income students in kindergarten through third grade and their families in obtaining supportive services, and it supports the active involvement of parents in the education of their children.

  • Family and Child Experiences Survey (FACES) Reports: This link provides access to Head Start FACES: Second and Third Progress Reports, "FACES Findings: New Research on Head Start Program Quality and Outcomes," and related archived reports, including "The First Progress Report on Head Start Program Performance Measures."

  • Head Start Impact Reports: This link provides access to Head Start Impact's first and second "Report to the Congress", "Building Futures: The Head Start Impact Study Research Design Plan," and more.

  • Infant Mental Health Report and Literature Review: This page provides information on efforts undertaken by the Head Start Bureau to understand and address the mental health needs of infants and toddlers, and includes a report and a literature review generated for the Infant Mental Health Forum held in October 2000.

  • Reaching Out to Families: Head Start Recruitment and Enrollment Practices: This report describes the results of a project that examined the Head Start recruitment and enrollment efforts from a variety of perspectives. The findings of this study should facilitate current practice and future research on the recruitment and enrollment of the families most in need of Head Start Services.

  • Family Service Center Demonstration: These reports evaluate family child care programs to determine whether services provided meet the Head Start Program Performance Standards.

  • Migrant Head Start Study (available soon): This descriptive study of seasonal farmworker families identifies and compares the needs of migrant and seasonal farm workers and provides national and state level estimates of the number of Head Start eligible seasonal and migrant farmworker children in the U.S.

  • Program Performance Measures for Head Start Programs Serving Infants and Toddlers: A framework is presented that outlines intended goals for management systems, services and outcomes for children and families in Head Start programs serving infants and toddlers (Early Head Start and Migrant Head Start). This framework is designed to support continuous program improvement efforts of individual programs as well as at the regional and national levels. Information is provided for programs on creating a performance measurement plan, including guidelines for choosing appropriate measures and detailed information on selected instruments.
