There are two weeks left for creative mappers of all ages to enter a poster in the annual poster/map contest, sponsored by the U.S. Geological Survey and the Bay Area Automated Mapping Association (BAMA). Winners in five categories, kindergarten through professional adult, will be awarded prizes ranging from videos and books to software. The contest is part of the observance of National Geography Day, November 14, and the theme is "Discover Your Neighborhood, From Your Block to the World."
Categories for the contest are: Kindergarten through third grade; fourth grade through eighth; ninth through twelfth grade; college; and professional. In all categories entries will be judged on creativity, best use of color, most appealing and most educational. The poster size may not exceed three feet by four feet, but can employ any medium, from crayons to paints, feathers or computer software.
Entries must be postmarked by midnight, November 9, and sent to: Liz Colvard, USGS MS 532, 345 Middlefield Road, Menlo Park, CA 94025; or dropped off by 4 p.m. that day at the USGS mapping center in Building 3 on the USGS campus at 345 Middlefield Road in Menlo Park.
