Members Of President's Council on the 21st Century Workforce Announced
Council To Provide Information, Advice To The President On 21st Century
Workforce Issues
WASHINGTON-U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao announced that
President George W. Bush has appointed the thirteen members to the President's
Council on the 21st Century Workforce:
Douglas Banes, General Vice President, United Brotherhood of Carpenters
and Joiners; James Hoffa, General President, International Brotherhood of
Teamsters; Jeffrey L. Bleustein, CEO, Harley Davidson; Anna Cabilik, President,
ANATEK Inc.; Anna Cabral, CEO, Hispanic Association on Corporate
Responsibility; Tom Donahue, President, US Chamber of Commerce; Jim Glassman,
Host, Tech Central Station; Lowell Guthrie, President, Trace Die Cast; former
Rep. Joe Scarborough; David Lee, Chairman, eOn Communications Corp. Dr. James
Gwartney, professor of economics at Florida State University; Patricia Herbold,
former member of the Washington State Gambling Commission; and Demaris H.
Miller, research psychologist.
"I am very excited to work with such a talented group of individuals in
providing the President critical information and advice that will be a catalyst
for positive change in our workforce," Chao said. "I am sure the Council is
eager to identify where the government needs to get out of the way of change
and to develop strategies for effectively addressing workforce issues."
The President's Council on the 21st Century Workforce will provide
information and advice to the President through the secretary of labor, the
Office of the 21st Century Workforce within the Department of Labor and other
appropriate federal officials relating to issues affecting the 21st century
workforce.
The Office of the 21st Century Workforce was created in June 2001 by
President Bush and gathers and disseminates information relating to workforce
issues by conducting summits, conferences, meetings and other appropriate
forums designed to encourage the participation of organizations and individuals
interested in such issues, including business and labor organizations,
academicians, employers, employees and public officials at the local, state and
federal levels.
