There are several ways to join the IRS. Most often, the procedure involves checking our position vacancy announcements, filling out a form called Optional Application for Federal Employment(OF612), and so on.

Perhaps the best way to explore an opportunity either as a high school or college student is to explore our career areas and FAQs. These pages will tell you everything you need to know: what announcements to check, what forms to complete and when, who to contact for more information, etc.

However, if you want to go it alone, here are some things to keep in mind.

  • First, check our job vacancy announcements at USAJOBS (That's the website of the Office of Personnel Management, the Federal Government's Human Resources Agency). New jobs are posted every Monday and Tuesday
  • Instead of submitting a resume, you may use form OF612 (Optional Application for Federal Employment). You can download a fillable PDF copy of the form from the OPM Optional Forms Page at http://www.opm.gov/forms/html/of.asp.
  • Then, send your completed OF612 to the address listed in the vacancy announcement

There are other things to know about exploring an IRS opportunity so, we invite you to view the other pages in this "Student/College Opportunity" section of our website.
