Conference on Preventing Fraudulent Advertising

Introduction

The Federal Trade Commission, the Food and Drug Administration, the National Association of Attorneys General, and the American Association of Advertising Agencies sponsored a one-day national media seminar on April 21, 1995, to focus on the media's role in preventing fraudulent advertising.

The conference brought together representatives from federal and state law enforcement agencies and broadcast and print media to discuss various approaches to advertising clearance and to share techniques for minimizing the amount of fraudulent, deceptive, or unsubstantiated claims, published or broadcast in their respective media.

The attached proceedings were edited from taped transcripts of the morning sessions.
