Managing Off-Highway Vehicles

Draft National OHV Policy Announced - July 7, 2004

The Forest Service is announcing its draft proposal for public comment regarding a national approach to govern OHV and other motor vehicle use on national forests and grasslands.  The proposed rule would allow the agency to improve how it manages this use by balancing the public's enjoyment of using OHVs with ensuring the best possible care of the land.  For more information, see the following:

Public Comment Period for Proposed OHV Rule

The following website address will access Executive Order 11644 (as amended) - USE OF OFF-ROAD VEHICLES ON THE PUBLIC LANDS at the Government Printing Office website. This Executive Order provides direction in the management of off-highway vehicles on National Forest System lands.

The following website will access 36 CFR 295 - USE OF MOTOR VEHICLES OFF FOREST SERVICE ROADS.  These regulations are under consideration for change for change to improve management of off-highway vehicles on National Forest Systems lands.  Proposals for change of the regulations will be available for public comment prior to final determination.
