Access
The Little Brooklyn Lake Guard Station is located nine miles west
of Centennial on the Brooklyn Lake Road, FDR 317.
Attractions & Considerations
From mid June until early November the cabin is accessible by road
(weather permitting). During the winter, the Snowy Range Scenic
By-way is closed three miles east of the cabin. When the road is
closed, the cabin is only accessible by ski, snowshoe, or snowmobile.
At 10,340 feet above sea level the "rustic" three room
cabin measures 28 feet by 22 feet and can accommodate up to seven
people. There are two sets of bunk beds, one single bed and a double
hide-a-bed couch.
The cabin is heated by a wood stove and equipped with propane lights,
a propane cook stove, and a propane refrigerator.
The Forest Service supplies the propane and firewood. Cooking and
eating utensils are also provided. Potable (drinking) water is available
from a pump located outside of the cabin.
There is no running water inside the cabin, but there is a kitchen
sink that drains to a septic tank. A vault type toilet is located
outside of the cabin.
Permit tees should bring bedding or sleeping bags, all weather
clothes, dish soap and sponge, paper towels, trash bags, and wooden
matches.
Narrative
Built in 1931 to house Forest Service employees, the cabin is
now available for rent to the general public on a year-round basis
through the Forest Service Recreational Cabin Program Granger-Thye
Act of April 24, 1960.
