OH - Sketches Released: Arson Task Force Investigators Ask for Public’s Help
COLUMBUS, OH – Law enforcement officials investigating the deaths of 10 persons in the September 12, 2004 arson fire that destroyed the apartment building at 600 Lynnwood Lane South, Columbus have released two sketches of individuals investigators need to identify and are asking for the public’s help.
Christopher Sadowski, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) along with Gerald Robinson, Chief Deputy Fire Marshal for the State of Ohio and Steve Martin, Chief Deputy of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department announced today that investigators need to identify the two individuals depicted in the sketches below and interview them concerning any knowledge they may have of the fire. Semiautomatic Assault Weapon Update
By statute, the prohibitions relating to semiautomatic assault
weapons and large capacity ammunition feeding devices expired on
September 13, 2004. As a result, certain sections of the Gun Control
Act, 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44, and its implementing regulations, 27
CFR Part 478, are no longer in effect.

Interim Reporting Instructions for Arson and Explosives
Incidents
The Attorney General (AG) has directed that the Department of Justice’s “Chief Information Officer (CIO) … consolidate all of the Department’s arson and explosives incident databases … into a single database.” He further directed that these databases “shall be maintained by ATF.” The CIO is to report on the feasibility of consolidating all of the databases within 90 days.

Justice Department Announces New Violent Crime Reduction
Initiative
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Attorney General John Ashcroft, Deputy Attorney
General James Comey, and Carl J. Truscott, Director of the Bureau
of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, announced today a
new federal initiative aimed at reducing crime in fifteen U.S. communities.
This initiative has placed teams consisting of ATF Agents, U.S.
Marshals, DEA agents and federal prosecutors in each selected city

Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act of 2004
On July 22nd, President Bush signed the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act of 2004, Public Law No. 108-277. The Act became effective upon the President's signature. The Act amends the Gun Control Act (GCA) to exempt qualified active and retired law enforcement officers from State and local laws prohibiting the carrying of concealed firearms. Read entire text
