Fuels Planning - Science Synthesis and Integration: An Interagency research/management partnership to provide decision support for the management of the dry forests of the Interior West

The need has been identified to provide decision support in the form of research information and new tools to fuels specialists involved in project planning. Four key areas have been identified for this endeavor to help with planning hazardous fuels reduction projects in the dry forest types:

  1. Wildland Fire Behavior and Forest Structure
  2. Environmental Consequences
  3. Economics
  4. Social Science (Concerns)

The goal of this project is to improve access and use of research information. The synthesis represents the collective judgment of the most knowledgeable scientific experts in silviculture, fire behavior, fire ecology, social science, and other fields.

Target audiences for the products of this effort include fuels management specialists, resource specialists, planning team leaders and ultimately the line officers that make decisions based on staff recommendations.
