Aviles sworn in As 30th Under Secretary Of The Navy

WASHINGTON --Secretary of the Navy Gordon England today swore in Dionel M. Aviles as the 30th under secretary of the Navy in an informal ceremony held in the Pentagon. A formal ceremony will be scheduled at a later date. In this capacity Aviles serves as the deputy and principal assistant to the secretary of the Navy and acts with full authority of the secretary in the day-to-day management of the Department of the Navy.

I am grateful for this opportunity and look forward to continuing to work with the senior leadership of the Department of Defense, the Navy and Marine Corps, and the Congress to transform our maritime forces to better address the challenges we will face in the future," said Aviles.
Prior to his appointment, Aviles was assistant secretary of the Navy for financial management and comptroller. From 1995-2001, he was a professional staff member on the Armed Services Committee of the House of Representatives. Aviles also served as a budget examiner in the National Security Division of the Office of Management and Budget in the Executive Office of the President. He is a Navy veteran and holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy and a master's degree in business administration from George Washington University.
