APPLICATIONS INVITED FOR THE 2003 HARALD LÖE SCHOLARS PROGRAM
Applications are now being accepted for the 2003 Harald Löe Scholars Program,
sponsored by the American Dental Education Association (ADEA), the American
Association for Dental Research (AADR), and the NIDCR. The program honors Dr.
Harald Löe, NIDCR Director from 1983-1994, and is funded by the Procter
& Gamble Company. This annual six-month scholarship enables one scholar
to spend time at the ADEA, the AADR and the NIDCR in Washington, D.C., gaining
direct experience in a broad range of national policy and administrative issues
facing dental education, research, and industry. This is a unique opportunity
for a dental educator or researcher to concentrate on issues of national importance
affecting health care policy and, in particular, oral health. The recipient
will also work with Procter & Gamble to further understand current priorities
and challenges from the perspective of the industry.
A stipend of up to $14,500 will be awarded directly to the scholar to cover
travel and living expenses. The dental applicant's institution must be willing
to provide full salary and benefits during the scholarship period.
Eligibility: Applicants must be members of ADEA or AADR (preferably
both), with 10 years of experience in dental research and/or dental administration.
Eight of these years must have been spent at a school of dentistry or an advanced
dental education institution in the U.S.
Application Deadline: December 30, 2002
All applicants must submit the following: a statement describing involvement
at the dental school and/or major national issues in dental education and research
that would contribute to the scholar's experience; a current curriculum vitae;
a letter of recommendation from the chief administrative officer of the applicant's
institution; and a proposal explaining the area in which the applicant would
like to concentrate.
Notification: Announcement of the recipient will be made at the annual
sessions of the ADEA and AADR in March 2003.
Application materials should be sent to: Harald Löe Scholars Program,
