Qualifications include the following:

  • BS in physics, chemistry, biology, public administration, or other closely related field, any equivalent combination of training and experience. MS or PhD preferred
  • At least five years of professional work experience in a forensic laboratory setting
  • At least four years with lead or supervisory responsibilities
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques of criminal investigation, identification, and evidence analysis
  • Knowledge of criminal code and other state/federal statues applicable to law enforcement
  • Knowledge of current practices in court administration

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Managing supervision of all crime laboratory case loads, case reviews, personnel, special projects, and resources
  • Updating policy and procedures manual
  • Establishing goals, objectives, and priorities
  • Establishing and maintaining work standards, procedures, methods, rules, efficiency of operations, and accreditation
  • Devising a timetable for the planning, coordination, and achievement of work objectives, completion of projects, and development of changes in work processes
  • Directing, instructing, advising, and counseling personnel
  • Giving legal advice to employees concerning such things as cases or search warrants
  • Conferring with law enforcement regarding problems or questions affecting the crime laboratory work system
  • Managing and supervising all work units and aspects of the crime laboratory operation from a scientific and a policy/program standpoint

  • Using professional scientific knowledge and expertise on regular basis
  • Keeping informed of rapidly changing technological and scientific developments and methods of analysis in the disciplines of forensic science
  • Assisting the DCI Director with development and monitoring of the budget and acting as director in his/her absence
  • Acting as liaison among crime laboratory and state, federal, and local law enforcement agencies
  • Representing crime laboratory with law enforcement relations, including speaking to public groups
  • Monitoring and providing appropriate and necessary training and mentoring of professional staff
  • Serving as legislative liaison to testify or provide recommendation to legislators or committee on law enforcement or criminal justice issues.

Qualifications include the following:

  • BS in chemistry, biology, physics, forensics, or criminalistics, which includes coursework in general chemistry, organic chemistry, instrumental analysis, quantitative analysis, and physics
