This live interactive program will provide the most current information
available in the constantly changing field of immunization.
The content of Session One should be: principles of vaccination, general recommendations on immunization,
vaccine administration, and vaccine storage and handling.
We dropped the "strategies" part for this year. Session Two will cover pertussis, pneumococcal
disease (childhood), polio, and Hib.
Session Three will cover measles, rubella, varicella, smallpox, and meningococcal disease.
Session Four will cover hepatitis B, hepatitis A, influenza,
and pneumococcal disease (adult).
This broadcast will feature a question and answer session in which
participants nationwide can interact with the course instructors
via toll-free telephone lines.

Goal
To improve immunization practices in the United States.
Objectives
At the end of the series, participants will be able to:

Describe the difference between active and passive immunity.
-
List two characteristics of live attenuated vaccines.
-
List two characteristics of inactivated vaccines.
For each vaccine-preventable disease:
-
Describe the disease including the causative agent.
-
List the groups at highest risk.
-
Identify those for whom routine immunization is recommended.
-
Describe characteristics of the vaccine used to prevent each disease.
(Characteristics may include: schedule, contraindications and/or adverse reactions.)
Target Audience
Physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician
assistants, DoD paraprofessionals, pharmacists, and their
colleagues who either give immunizations or set policy for
their offices, clinics, communicable disease, or infection
control programs. Both private and public healthcare providers,
including pediatricians, family practice specialists, residents,
and medical and nursing students.

Continuing Education Credit
For each of the four broadcast sessions, continuing education credit
will be offered for various professions based on 3 hours of instruction.

Participants must register and complete an evaluation for each of the four sessions.
By participating in all four sessions, you can receive the maximum of 12 hours of credit.
