Acquisitions

Business Opportunity Information

One of your first considerations in deciding whether you want to do business with the Office of the Federal Detention Trustee (OFDT) will probably be to determine how the Federal acquisition process works and how you can participate in it. The acquisition process is the system by which a Federal agency obtains the goods and services it needs to function. The Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) defines the acquisition process as:

"...the acquiring by contract with appropriated funds of supplies or services (including construction) by and for the use of the Federal Government through purchase or lease, whether the supplies or services are already in existence or must be created, developed, demonstrated, and evaluated. Acquisition begins at the point when agency needs are established and includes the description of requirements to satisfy agency needs, solicitation and selection of sources, award of contracts, contract financing, contract performance, contract administration, and those technical and management functions directly related to the process of fulfilling agency needs by contract."

In summary, you may participate in the Federal acquisition process by receiving and responding to acquisition solicitations that you believe your company can perform. You may obtain copies of these solicitations by requesting them directly from agencies advertising pending acquisition actions in the FedBizOpps. In any case, the OFDT welcomes and encourages your participation in the acquisition process.

How To View Current Solicitations and Awards

OFDT solicitations and awards over $25,000 are posted in the General Services Administration's Federal Business Opportunities (FedBizOpps) website. www.FedBizOpps.gov is the single government point-of-entry for Federal government procurement opportunities over $25,000.

Interested parties are responsible for monitoring this site for the most up-to-date information about OFDT acquisitions.

Item I-Central Contractor Registration (FAR Case 2002-018)

This final rule amends the FAR to require contractor registration in the Central Contractor Registration (CCR) database prior to award of any contract, basic agreement, basic ordering agreement, or blanket purchase agreement on or after October 1, 2003. How does a contractor register? The easiest way for a vendor to register is through the Internet at the CCR homepage (www.ccr.gov).
