Self-Study STD Modules for Clinicians

About the Modules

The Self-Study STD Curriculum Modules for Clinicians includes seven web-based educational modules, each based on a specific STD topic. Each module is considered to be an individual course, and a student may complete as many modules as he or she chooses. The modules are based on the curriculum developed by the National Network of STD/HIV Prevention Training Centers which includes the treatment and management recommendations of the 2002 CDC STD Treatment Guidelines.

Target Audience

The target audience for these modules is clinicians in primary care settings (nurses, nurse practitioners, nurse-midwives, physician assistants, and physicians) who desire a basic introduction to STD diagnosis and management.

How to Get Started

If you are logged in, click on a module from the menu on the left. If not, click Login on the top menu. You will be asked to register with the site in order to continue.

Continuing Education

CME and CNE credits are available for each self-study module. To receive continuing education credit, go to CDC/ATSDR Training and Education Online to register for the module and complete the exam and evaluation. For more information on continuing education credit, click here. Even if you are not interested in receiving continuing education credit, we encourage you to complete the course evaluation. Your comments are valuable to us.

Additional Learning

The National Network of STD/HIV Prevention Training Centers (PTCs) offers STD clinical training courses for public and private clinicians across the country. Many courses provide clinical and laboratory experience in addition to didactic learning. Courses are available in a variety of formats, including classroom- and distance-based.
