FLAG AND GENERAL OFFICER ASSIGNMENTS

LIEUTENANT GENERAL

Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the President has nominated Army Maj. Gen. John M. Le Moyne for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general and assignment as deputy chief of staff for personnel, U.S. Army, Washington, D.C. Le Moyne is currently serving as the commanding general, U.S. Infantry Center, and commandant, U.S. Army Infantry School, Fort Benning, Ga.

REAR ADMIRAL

Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Vern Clark announced today the following assignments:

Navy Rear Adm. (lower half) Barry M. Costello is being assigned as commander, Cruiser Destroyer Group One. Costello is currently serving as deputy director for strategic plans and policy, J5, Joint Staff, Washington, D.C.

Navy Rear Adm. (lower half) Matthew G. Moffit is being assigned as director, Aviation Plans and Requirements Branch, N780, OPNAV, Washington, D.C. Moffit is currently serving as assistant deputy chief of staff for aviation, U.S. Marine Corps, Washington, D.C.

Navy Rear Adm. (lower half) Evan M. Chanik, Jr., is being assigned as commander, Carrier Group Three. Chanik is currently serving as director, Aviation Plans and Requirements Branch, N780, OPNAV, Washington, D.C.

Navy Rear Adm. (lower half) (select) Patrick M. Walsh is being assigned as deputy director for strategic plans and policy, J5, Joint Staff, Washington, D.C. Walsh is currently serving as executive assistant to the Chief of Naval Personnel/Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Manpower and Personnel, N1, OPNAV, Washington, D.C.

Navy Rear Adm. (lower half) James M. Zortman is being assigned as commander, Carrier Group Seven. Zortman is currently serving as director, Political Military Affairs, N52, OPNAV, Washington, D.C.
