Remembering Franklin Roosevelt's call for children to donate dimes to eradicate polio, President George W. Bush asked children to donate their dollars to America's Fund for Afghan Children in a prime time news conference at the White House on October 11, 2001.

One in four Afghan children will not make it to their fifth birthday. One in three Afghan children is an orphan, and nearly half of Afghan children suffer chronic malnutrition.
