Coalition
Following the appalling events of September 11th, countries across the world expressed their support for action against terrorism. That support now forms the foundation of a remarkable world-wide coalition.

The coalition rapidly established its objectives. The first things to do were: to stop Usama Bin Laden and the al Qaeda network and to ensure that Afghanistan ceased to harbour and sustain international terrorism.

The coalition’s objectives remain: to do everything possible to eliminate the threat posed by international terrorism; to deter states from supporting, harbouring or acting complicity with international terrorist groups.

We have destroyed a number of al Qaeda training camps in Afghanistan and removed the corrupt Taliban regime. The international community is fully committed to helping Afghanistan recover from the destruction wrought by the Taliban and its close ally - al Qaeda.

Our coalition partners represent nations and peoples of all cultures, religions and ethnic groups.
Dozens of countries contributed to this operation in significant ways.

U.S. Counterterrorism Policy
Make no concessions to terrorists and strike no deals.
Bring terrorists to justice for their crimes.
Isolate and apply pressure on countries that sponsor terrorism to force them to change their behavior.
Bolster the counterterrorism capabilities of those countries that work with the U.S. and require assistance.
