FOIA/Privacy Act Positions Available at Federal Agencies


The Office of Information and Privacy has learned of Freedom of Information Act/Privacy Act-related positions that are currently available both for attorneys and for access professionals at federal agencies:

• The Office of Information and Privacy in the Department of Justice is looking for an attorney with at least one year of legal experience. The position is at the GS-12 level and involves the adjudication of administrative appeals under the FOIA and the Privacy Act, the defense of litigation under both statutes, and the development of government-wide FOIA policy. • The Office of Information and Privacy in the Department of Justice is looking for a Freedom of Information Act Specialist to process FOIA and Privacy Act requests. • The Office of Information and Privacy is looking for full- or part-time FOIA Specialists, to be hired under the Student Career Experience Program, who will learn the intricacies of the FOIA and the Privacy Act, conduct research, and write narrative analyses. Applicants through this program must be at least 16 years of age and must be enrolled as a degree-seeking student currently taking classes at a college or university, with a grade point average of 2.5 or better. The position is at the GS-4, GS-5, or GS-7 level, depending upon whether the applicant has completed two or four years of college or is a graduate student. • The Office of General Counsel in the Federal Emergency Management Agency (now part of the Directorate of Emergency Preparedness and Response within the Department of Homeland Security) is looking for an experienced attorney to work in its General Law Division. The position is at the GS-13, GS-14, or GS-15 level. Expertise in the Freedom of Information and Privacy Acts is necessary, as well as expertise in other areas of the law, including procurement, grants, fiscal, personnel, and security.
