Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen was in Norfolk, Va., this morning and is now in Washington.

At 11 a.m. today in Norfolk, Secretary Cohen spoke at the U.S. Joint Forces Command change of command ceremony. See the advisory for details.

At 4 p.m. today at the Pentagon, Secretary Cohen will host an honor cordon to welcome Minister of Defense Rudolf Scharping, of the Federal Republic of Germany. A joint media availability will follow at 5 p.m. See the advisory for details.

Deputy Secretary of Defense Rudy de Leon is in Washington today. There are no public or media events on his schedule.

Because of Secretary Cohen's visit to Norfolk, there will be no regular DoD news briefing today. See the press advisory.

Two naval vessels from the People's Republic of China (PRC) are visiting Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, today through Sept. 8. See the news release and the Pacific Fleet web page for details.
