Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen is in Chicago today. Secretary Cohen will speak on "Assuring American Security in the 21st Century" at the Mid-America Club in Chicago. A media availability will follow the speech. See the press advisory for details.

Deputy Secretary of Defense Rudy de Leon is in Washington. There are no public or media events on his schedule.

The regular Department of Defense news briefing will be conducted today at 1:30 p.m. in the Pentagon briefing studio, room 2E781. The briefer will be Navy Rear Adm. Craig R. Quigley, deputy assistant secretary of Defense for public affairs.

MEDFLAG 00-2, a joint/combined medical training and civil assistance exercise in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, ends today. See the news release and the European Command web page for details.
