Today in the Department of Defense, Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000

Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen and Deputy Secretary of Defense Rudy de Leon are in Washington today. There are no public or media events on their schedules.

The next Department of Defense news briefing is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 28, at 1:30 p.m. in the Pentagon briefing studio, room 2E781. The briefer will be Kenneth H. Bacon, assistant secretary of Defense for public affairs.

On Thursday, Sept. 28, Secretary Cohen will travel to Boston to speak at an event honoring the Coast Guard and its support to the Department of Defense. See the press advisory for details.

Croatian Phiblex 2000, a bilateral landing and maneuver ashore exercise, continues through Sept. 29 in Croatia. See the news release for details.

Fifteen U.S. military athletes are competing as members of the U.S. Olympic team in the 2000 Olympic games in Sydney, Australia, through Oct. 1. See the news release for details.
