PRESS ADVISORY
Secretary of Defense William J. Perry will present
the first ever National Employer Support Freedom Awards
at 11 a.m. (EST), Monday, Nov. 4, 1996 during
ceremonies in the Pentagon's DoD Briefing Studio, Room
2E781.
One national and four regional recipients will be
honored during the ceremony which recognizes the
significant contributions and sacrifices made by
employers of National Guard and Reserve members. As
the Total Force military downsizes, there is increasing
reliance on National Guard and Reserve forces.
Receiving the national award will be Donald J.
Schneider, president of Schneider National, a trucking
company based in Green Bay, Wis. Regional Employer
Support Freedom Awards will also be presented to the
United Postal Service, Central Florida District,
Orlando, Fla.; McDonnell-Douglas Corporation, St.
Louis, Mo.; Tektronix Inc., Wilsonville, Ore., and
National Life, an insurance company located in
Montpelier, Vt.
Joining Secretary Perry during the ceremonies will
be Deborah R. Lee, assistant secretary of defense for
reserve affairs.
