IMMEDIATE RELEASE
REPUBLIC OF KOREA AND COMBINED FORCES COMMAND TO CONDUCT ANNUAL
EXERCISE FOAL EAGLE
The Republic of Korea (ROK) government and Combined Forces
Command (CFC) will conduct their annual rear area field training
exercise, Foal Eagle'96 (FE ‘96), October 28 through November 10.
FE ‘96 is the 31st in a series of these regularly scheduled,
routine training exercises.
Foal Eagle demonstrates ROK/US interoperability in combined
exercises and the United States' commitment to the defense of the
ROK against external aggression.
The exercise will be held at a variety of locations
throughout the Republic of Korea and will involve the majority of
US and ROK forces on the peninsula.
Foal Eagle is designed to test rear area protection
operations and major command, control and communication systems.
It will also provide hands-on field experience for forces of both
nations. Most exercise training sites are located well south of
the Seoul metropolitan area, although some training will occur
from immediately east of Seoul to the East Coast. Certain
training events will include firing blank ammunition and night
combat exercises.
