NORFOLK, Va. (NNS) -- Country music singer Aaron Tippin and a film crew from the Great American Country network visited USS George Washington (GW) (CVN 73) Oct. 8 to film a television show “Made in America."

“Made In America,” hosted by Tippin, brings viewers up close and personal with the companies and organizations that make America what it is today. Tippin and the film crew had no idea of the turnout that awaited them, as crew members greeted and cheered them in the hanger bay upon their arrival.

Airman Tanya Bales from Locust Grove, Okla., was one of the hundreds of enthusiastic Sailors up front as Tippin made his way toward the crowd.

“When my commander told me he was coming onboard, I started screaming and jumping up and down in the office," Bales said after Tippin spoke with her and autographed a shirt and ball cap. "I have loved his music ever since I was seven."

Tippin's career was launched under a banner of patriotism when his debut single, "You've Got to Stand for Something," reached the Top Ten in 1991 during Desert Storm. Tippin quickly became a voice of patriotism.

“This is a great honor, since I started out by entertaining Soldiers and Marines in the Persian Gulf with the Bob Hope USO Tour during Operation Desert Storm,” Tippin said. "I feel warm knowing that my career has based a lot around the military."

Halfway through the tour, Tippin spent time having lunch with Sailors on the mess decks and thanking them for the service to their country.

“I feel it is a privilege to come out here, and let you guys and gals know how much we love and appreciate you, and what you do for us on a daily basis,” Tippin said.

As Tippin departed, he said he would like to return to GW to give a performance to the brave men and women where they would best appreciate it - at sea.
