National Violent Death
Reporting System Implementation ManualMore than 46,000 people die from homicides and suicides each year in the United States, yet there is a lack of basic information about the characteristics and circumstances of these violent deaths at the local, state, and national levels that could help prevent them. CDC’s Injury Center has developed a
National Violent Death Reporting System (NVDRS) Implementation Manual to promote the development of a uniform violent death reporting system. The Manual will also serve as a training tool for public or private agencies wishing to implement a similar reporting system in their own jurisdiction. Data from this system can be compared across states and localities and will help practitioners and policy makers design and evaluate local, regional, and national prevention programs and to make informed decisions about violence prevention.
