The Clinical Center installed a hospital-wide, real-time computerized medical information system (MIS) in 1976. This system supports the Clinical Center's dual responsibilities of providing quality patient care and collecting research data. Medical orders are entered directly by physicians or nursing personnel using personal workstations (Macintosh and DOS-compatible) that connect to a central computer. Patient information may be displayed on video screens or printed for use by medical professionals. Radiology reports, laboratory test results, medication summaries, nursing care plans, and other patient information are instantly available. In addition, information is summarized and printed daily and weekly . The MIS assists patient care by allowing communications among treatment, diagnostic, and research services in the Clinical Center.

Mac/MIS is a client server application that provides access to MIS on an Apple Macintosh computer.

WebMIS is a java applet that provides access to MIS on PC or Macintosh computers using the Internet. Web browsers currently supported: Netscape version 3.0 or greater and Internet Explorer version 3.0 or greater. The redirect to the current WebMIS URL is here. Last updated: 2001-08-27
