Statement on House and Senate Resolutions

October 5, 2004

STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY

On Tuesday, October 5, 2004, the President signed into law:

H.R. 265, the "Mount Rainier National Park Boundary Adjustment Act of 2004," which authorizes the Secretary of the Interior to acquire land for and revise the boundaries of Mount Rainier National Park in the State of Washington.

H.R. 1521, the "Johnstown Flood National Memorial Boundary Adjustment Act of 2004," which authorizes the Secretary of the Interior to acquire approximately 14 acres for inclusion in the Johnstown Flood National Memorial in Pennsylvania.

H.R. 1616, the "Martin Luther King, Junior, National Historic Site Land Exchange Act," which authorizes the Secretary of the Interior to exchange land within the Martin Luther King, Junior, National Historical Site in Atlanta, Georgia.

H.R. 1648, the "Carpinteria and Montecito Water Distribution Systems Conveyance Act of 2004," which authorizes the Secretary of the Interior to convey two water distribution systems of the Cachuma Project in California to the Carpinteria Valley Water District and the Montecito Water District.

H.R. 1658, the "Railroad Right-of-Way Conveyance Validation Act of 2004," which removes any cloud on title for two parcels of privately owned land in California.

H.R. 1732, the "Williamson County Water Recycling Act of 2004," which authorizes the Secretary of the Interior to participate in the design, planning, and construction of a project to reclaim and reuse wastewater in Williamson County, Texas.

H.R. 2696, the "Southwest Forest Health and Wildfire Prevention Act of 2004," which establishes three institutes to promote the use of adaptive ecosystem management to reduce the risk of wildfire and restore the health of dry forests and woodland ecosystems in certain western interior States.

H.R. 3209, which amends the Reclamations Project Authorization Act of 1972 to clarify the acreage for which the North Loup Division is authorized to provide irrigation water under the Pick-Sloan Missouri River Basin Project.

H.R. 3249, which extends the term of the Forest Counties Payments Committee to September 30, 2007.

H.R. 3389, which adds "nonprofit organizations" as a category of organizations eligible for Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Awards.

H.R. 3768, the "Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve Boundary Revision Act of 2004," which expands the boundaries of the Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve in Jacksonville, Florida.

S.J.Res. 41, which commemorates the opening of the National Museum of the American Indian.
