MEMORANDUM FOR CORRESPONDENTS


Veterans of the Battle of Iwo Jima, along with more than 400 active duty U.S. Marines and sailors, aircraft from Carrier Air Wing Five, and the USS San Bernardino (LST-1189) will participate in the 50th Anniversary Commemoration of the Battle of Iwo Jima.

Veterans representing the Third, Fourth, and Fifth Marine Divisions, U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, and U.S. Army Air Forces, along with Japanese veterans and family members will return March 14, 1995, to conduct a joint/combined ceremony.

They will hold a memorial service for their fallen comrades and commemorate 50 years of peace and friendship between Japan and the United States.
