IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FLAG OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENT

Secretary of Defense William J. Perry announced today that the President has nominated Vice Admiral Joseph W. Prueher, U.S. Navy, for appointment to the grade of admiral and assignment as Vice Chief of Naval Operations in the Pentagon. Vice Admiral Prueher is currently serving as Commander Sixth Fleet/Commander Naval Striking and Support Forces, Southern Europe, in Gaeta, Italy.

Vice Admiral Prueher was born November 25, 1942 in Nashville, Tennessee.
