The Council was hosted by Afghanistan's Foreign Minister Abdollah and Minister for Women's Affairs Habiba Sarabi. In meetings and on site visits Council participants focused on education for women, literacy, health care, micro-finance, job training and job placement for Afghan women. The U.S. delegation, in addition to Paula Dobriansky and Charlotte Ponticelli, included Karen Hughes, advisor to U.S. President George W. Bush, Margaret Spellings, Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy and Joyce Rumsfeld, wife of the U.S. Secretary of Defense.
