Opportunities at EPA
Many of the following job opportunities are not currently available using

automated recruitment system. Information on how to take advantage of
these employment opportunities is provided when selecting the appropriate

Internships, Fellowships, and Student Programs
EPA has developed several programs and resources to provide interesting
opportunities for you if you are pursuing or completing your academic
course of study.
Attorney and Law Clerk Jobs
Attorney positions in the Federal Government are in the excepted service
and typically are hired under an appointment called Schedule A. Excepted
service attorney positions are not covered by regular civil service hiring
procedures. EPA hires attorneys directly, at its various locations, without
conducting examinations or requesting a list of eligible applicants from
the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM). Generally, an LL.B or J.D.
degree and membership in a State bar meets the minimum education requirements.
The entry level grade is usually GS-9, but those with experience may qualify
for higher grades.
Law clerk positions are in the excepted service and are appointed under
the Schedule A authority. You are eligible for a law clerk position if
you meet all requirements for an attorney position except bar membership.
Appointments are made for 14 months pending admission to a State bar.

Senior Executive Service (SES) Jobs
The SES includes most managerial, supervisory, and policy positions classified
above General Schedule (GS) grade 15 or equivalent positions at the EPA.
The Executive Core Qualifications (ECQ's) define the competencies and
characteristics for positions in the SES. The ECQ's are required for entry
to the Senior Executive Service and are used in selection, performance
management, and leadership development for management and executive positions.
