The amended Department of Defense Military Construction and Family Housing Program for fiscal 2002 totals $10.0 billion. The request includes more than 400 major construction projects at approximately 225 locations to provide facilities and housing needed by the Armed Forces, the Defense Agencies, and for NATO security investments.

This budget advances the Bush Administration's commitment to upgrading DoD's aging infrastructure by increasing funding to meet current needs and starting a long-range plan to restructure and upgrade DoD facilities.

This fiscal 2002 amended request provides $4.7 billion for military construction (including environmental compliance), $.5 billion for base closure activities, $0.2 billion for the NATO Security Investment Program, and $.5 billion for planning and design for future projects and unspecified minor construction.

The request also provides $3.0 billion for operating and maintaining almost 300,000 family housing units and $1.1 billion for constructing and improving family housing units.
