Actions for November 7, 2003
Commission approval of amended
complaint: The Commission has approved the filing of an amended complaint
in its case against Kevin Trudeau, et al. The original
complaint in this matter, announced on June 10, 2003, alleged
that health claims for Coral Calcium Supreme made by Trudeau
and several other defendants were deceptive, in violation
of the FTC Act. Through the action, the FTC has added three
additional liability defendants and two relief defendants
in this matter. They include: 1) Karbo Enterprises, Inc.;
2) Shop America Marketing Group; 3) TruStar Global Media;
4) K.T. Corp.; and 5) TruCom, LLC. The Commission vote to
approve the amended complaint was 5-0. (FTC File No. X030066;
staff contact is Laura M. Sullivan, Bureau of Consumer Protection;
see press release dated June 10, 2003.)
Commission authorization of the staff to request
dismissal of defendants: The Commission has authorized
the staff to request the dismissal of two defendants in
the case currently
pending
against World Media Brokers, Inc., Express Marketing Service,
and the companies’ principals. The FTC’s original
complaint in this case alleged violations related to alleged
cross-border lottery fraud. Through this action, the staff
has withdrawn its complaints against Paul Teskey and his
son, Jean-Paul Teskey, as they did not play a substantial
role in the defendants’ operations. The Commission
vote authorizing the staff to dismiss the two individual
defendants was 5-0. (FTC File No. X020110, staff contact
is David A. O’Toole, FTC Midwest Region, 312-960-5601;
