- Edward B. Knipling /s/
- Acting Administrator
| As Acting Administrator of the Agricultural Research Service (ARS), I am firmly committed to ensuring ARS' compliance with civil rights and equal employment opportunity for employees, applicants for employment, and beneficiaries of ARS programs and services regardless of race, color, national origin, gender, religion, age, disability, sexual orientation, marital or family status, political beliefs, parental status, or protected genetic information.
ARS' EEO policy mandates that every employee has the responsibility to create a workplace that recognizes and appreciates each individual, and treat him or her with respect and dignity. We all play a role in the success of diversity: personal, interpersonal, and organizational. It is imperative that all employees be treated fairly with respect and professionalism and given the opportunity to reach their full potential. Diversity in the workforce is not just a program, but is a mixture of differences and similarities of individuals at all levels throughout ARS.
As part of their normal management methodology, managers and supervisors have both a moral and legal responsibility to provide aggressive leadership and take personal responsibility for making equal opportunity a reality through the implementation of affirmative employment programs and to address under-representation and employment concerns of women, minorities, and people with disabilities, ensuring a more diverse workforce.
Discrimination is costly, nonproductive, and affects everyone. An ARS employee who tolerates or promotes discriminatory conduct/behavior or reprisal or acts in a manner contrary to this policy will be held personally accountable. Discriminatory conduct/behavior may be reflected in annual performance ratings and may include disciplinary action.
I look forward to recognizing exemplary acts that significantly contribute to the success of our civil rights program. I encourage that each of you promote the Administrator's EEO/Civil Rights (CR) Awards Program, focusing on the positive impact that EEO/CR achievements have made to ARS. Each year nominations will be accepted in supervisory/managerial and non-supervisory/non-managerial categories. The award winners will be honored at the ARS Annual Recognition Program.
This policy is my personal commitment to ensure that equal opportunity in ARS is guaranteed to all employees.
