OPM USAJOBS Web Site Serves Department of Defense's Growing Demand to Fill Critical Vacancies to Rebuild Iraq and Afghanistan
USAJOBS Highlights DoD SOFIA Link as One of the Most Visited with 415,655 Pages Viewed

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Director Kay Coles James today announced that since the collaboration of the OPM and the Department of Defense (DoD) recruitment web sites, USAJOBS and SOFIA (Support our Friends in Iraq and Afghanistan) respectively, SOFIA is one of the most visited links on USAJOBS, with 415,655 pages viewed. James indicated this highlights the high level of interest among Federal employees and job seekers in serving their nation by lending a hand in the rebuild of Iraq and Afghanistan.

Currently, the Centralized Civilian Recruitment Program of the U.S. Army Medical Command (MEDCOM) is utilizing the SOFIA link to recruit for a variety of highly skilled healthcare providers and medical support personnel. There continues to be a critical need for medical personnel who can provide services and care to soldiers who continue to fight the war on terror, as many are returning from and being deployed to areas, like Iraq and Afghanistan.

Director James said, "OPM and DoD are working together to reinforce the President's mandate to rebuild the nations of Iraq and Afghanistan. Since the USAJOBS re-launch in August, 2003, there have been 53,962,817 visitors and 483,455 new resumes created on www.USAJOBS.opm.gov which creates a pool of qualified and talented resources this great nation has to offer and from which these developing nations can greatly benefit."

During a recent email campaign, OPM included information about the SOFIA recruitment effort in Iraq and Afghanistan in its search agent email notices which are sent out to job seekers on a daily basis. The message was transmitted almost 7 million times. Since the addition of the SOFIA link in February 2004, the page has consistently ranked as one of the most visited pages on the USAJOBS web site; scoring within the top twenty-five pages each week.

The SOFIA DoD web site was established in 2003 to hire exceptional temporary Federal employees to work for the Coalition Provisional Authority to assist in the rebuilding of the two developing nations of Iraq and Afghanistan.

The USAJOBS/SOFIA linkage found on www.USAJOBS.opm.gov is one of many initiatives developed to attract the best and brightest to the Federal work force. Part of President Bush's Management Agenda E-Government initiative - Recruitment One-Stop - USAJOBS consolidates Federal jobs in one place, allowing users to spend more time applying for jobs rather than just trying to locate them.
