Federal Technology Service Office of the Chief Information Officer Overview

The Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) provides vision, leadership and expertise in Information Management (IM) and Information Technology (IT) critical to achieving GSA's business goals. IM incorporates the collection, distribution, processing, presentation, and logical flow of information to support the business needs of GSA. The OCIO develops, maintains, and facilitates the implementation of a sound and integrated IT architecture, promoting the effective and efficient design and operation of all major Information Resources Management (IRM) processes, including workflows.

The OCIO is the focal point for strategic planning, capital planning, and leveraging of IM and IT resources, ensuring that substantial benefits are obtained from the IM/IT investment. The OCIO incorporates the responsibility for coordinating business process engineering, developing data architectures and enterprise-wide information access, coordinating hardware and software standards, and maintaining security requirements for all corporate systems. Most importantly, the OCIO is responsible for setting the direction for future internal systems.
