Forest Products

Welcome!

Although the industry self-generates over half of its energy from manufacturing by-products, it still ranks as the third largest consumer of fossil energy in the U.S. manufacturing sector, behind only petroleum and chemicals. Through participation in the Industries of the Future process, the Industrial Technologies Program (ITP) and the U.S. forest products industry have

  • Set a vision for the future

  • Defined its R&D priorities in roadmaps

  • Developed a portfolio of R&D to address high-priority pre-competitive needs impacting many forest products companies

  • Established partnerships with forest products associations and consortiums, including the industry's Agenda 2020 technology partnership

  • Accelerated progress toward major technology breakthroughs

Solicitations

Industrial Technologies Program (ITP) awards cost-shared funding for R&D projects through a competitive solicitation process. Projects are performed by collaborative partnerships and must address industry-specified priorities. In this way, ITP maintains a balanced portfolio of R&D projects that will help realize national goals for energy and the environment.
