Ambassador
signs two agreements
In an official ceremony on September 29, U.S. Ambassador
H. Douglas Barclay, Salvadoran Foreign Affairs Minister Francisco
Lainez, and USAID Director Mark Silverman signed two agreements
aimed at promoting greater economic freedom and an open,
diversified economy as well as more responsive, transparent
government.

and Senator John Kerry, the Democratic nominee
for president, faced off on September 30 in the
first of three presidential debates.
After the
earthquakes in 2001, the U.S. Government set aside $170 million
for reconstruction assistance, primarily through USAID. The
money has rebuilt community infrastructure, homes for families
as well as schools, health centers, and water and sanitation
systems.
