Where is information available on recruitment and retention of health care practitioners in rural areas?

Health care practitioners looking for opportunities to practice in rural areas can check with the National Rural Recruitment and Retention Network. This network consists of non-profit state organizations interested in helping health professionals locate specific practice sites in rural areas of the United States. Contacts are listed for foreign medical graduates seeking J-1 visa waivers. Visit the RRRNet Web site for general information on the network and state contacts or call 1-800-RURAL12 (787-2512).

The Bureau of Primary Care's National Health Service Corps (NHSC) works to increase access to primary care services for people in rural and urban health professional shortage areas by assisting in the development, recruitment, and retention of primary care providers. The NHSC offers scholarship and loan repayment programs. Call 1-800-221-9393 for more information on the NHSC.
