September 11th marks the third anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the United States. America has been changed by the tragic circumstances of those attacks, and some of those changes are reflected in the photographs that have been collected for the 9/11 photo gallery this year. From a sleek new design for the Freedom Tower at the former World Trade Center site in New York City to a street sign in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, to newly erected memorial in Middletown Township, New Jersey, which lost the greatest number of residents in the World Trade Center attacks, Americans are taking time to honor those who died that day from the United States and around the world. These are examples of a nation pausing to remember and paying tribute to the enduring spirit of freedom. |
